Do you still doubt the power of music? For the sake of your mental health, please don’t. Take advantage of good music and keep your heart alive. This week, I had a low-time episode, became moody, my boss was quick to notice it and she had to ask ‘Ife, is everything okay?’
I had to do a recall of my usual self. Guess what I did? I just plugged my ear to listening to Johnny Drille’s music. Before now, I am aware that Johnny Drille’s beautiful distinct voice and loving lyrics is therapeutic for me. So without wandering, I located JD’s songs and delighted my ear buds with good music especially ‘Count on You’. This song was legit on replay for days.
Unarguably, we all have our highs and lows as normal human beings would. While it is sweet to be on the high, we can’t always be on the high. Whether we like it or not, life will humble us and bring us to the low but it is important that you don’t linger at the low bar, else you become comfortable at the low. Trust me, this is not good for you. However, what you do in the low times matters a lot, it can take you lower or propel us higher. And like TuBaba said ‘You don’t wanna go down there’
So, what can you do in your low time? Here are some hacks that help me in my low times especially as an introvert:
Reflect: Take minutes or few hours to reflect, ask yourself why you are feeling low. Sometimes, self-awareness phase happens in the low times. Don’t disregard your feelings rather get to the root of why you feel the way you are feeling.
Take a nap: After you have given yourself the chance to reflect, indulge yourself to take a priceless nap. Maybe what you need is rest, so have it.
Write: Another valued but often unused hack when you are having a low time is writing. I know you can give yourself the excuse of ‘I don’t like to write’ or ‘I am not a writer’, you don’t need to be a writer. Just get yourself a journal and express all your thoughts in writing, it really helps to give clarity and ease off the low feeling. Even when, there is no one to talk to, just express yourself in writing. Your journal won’t judge you.
Listen to music: Like I shared earlier, listening to music can easily do the magic. Be self-aware of yourself that you know the genre of music or artistes’ voices that soothes you anytime any day. For me, listening to Don Moen and Johnny Drille’s voices naturally helps to cheer my heart and lighten my spirit.
Smile/Laugh: Watch a funny movie, spend time with someone who has a good sense of humour, look through old photos, voice notes and text messages. These and some more will uplift your heart from its low state.
Gratitude: Practice genuine gratitude. Appreciate and be thankful for all that you have now, reach out to a couple of persons who have been good to you and express your gratitude to them. I lie you not fam, gratitude is therapeutic.
Go for a walk: If you can, go for a walk. Wind all your anxiety away with fresh and cool air.
Read the Bible: The bible is the ever potent haven of peace, don’t disregard it. Even if you don’t feel like it (you most likely will not feel like it) but just do it, pick up the bible to read and meditate on His words.
These are some of my go-to hacks during the low times. Do have any other hacks that help you in your low times? Kindly share with us in the comment section.
If you are looking forward to year 2020’s end the way I am, while you are at it ‘be calming down oo’. Don’t overthink it that some of your goals in the year have not been achieved, besides there are 35 days left before the year finally runs out and you can still get things rolling. It’s not over till it’s over, so keep the faith and work going.
Have a pleasant weekend fam. Je t’aime mon ami🤗🤗
